Unseen Titanic footage released 38 years after wreckage was discovered

By David Stock

New footage from the wreck of the Titanic has been released, taken from the first submersible dives to the ship in July 1986. The footage was filmed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, which led the search for the ship’s final resting place. It was captured by cameras onboard a three-person research submersible called Alvin and the then newly developed remotely operated vehicle named Jason Jr. The latter was able to penetrate the wreck and return with iconic images of the ship’s interior.
